Tuesday Evenings
Tuesday Night World Championships. 6:00 PM sharp Spring/Summer. Start: corner of Hunting Rd/Greendale Ave/Kendrick Str, Needham. Average Ride Speed: 23+ mph. This is a show-and-go ride geared to high intensity training. If you are looking for a recovery ride, this is not the ride for you. An arrowed, 28 mile rolling loop that winds through Needham, Dover, Natick, and Medfield. Attacking and sprinting are encouraged in order to keep the pace up. No one waits. Expect to suffer.
Thursday Evenings
Thursday night team ride through Needham & environs. 6:00 PM sharp Spring/Summer. Start: corner of Hunting Rd/Greendale Ave/Kendrick Str, Needham. Now in its second year. This is a casual no drop ride whose emphasis is encouraging socializing and getting to know your teammates. The ride presents an opportunity to catch up on the previous week’s race exploits and to plan for upcoming races and strategy. Casual pace and conversation, we will attempt do maintain a double pace line. The ride is approximate 25 miles on lightly travelled back roads In Needham, Westwood, and Dover for what is the rush hour. There is an opportunity to test your legs if you desire for a sprint at the end of the ride on Greendale.
Thursday Evenings
Charles River Wheelmen Thursday Fitness Ride and Pace Line Clinic. 6:00 PM sharp (starting April 19 until Fall). Start: LG Hanscom Airfield Parking Lot, 200 Hanscom Drive Bedford. Routes of 17, 28 and 34 miles. The short and medium rides wind through Bedford, Concord and Carlisle. The long ride of rolling hills adds Westford and Chelmsford. Groups do the fitness ride at 14 to 20+ mph. NOTE: This is a CRW ride and therefore, you need to sign a wavier each ride, or become a member of CRW.
Saturday Mornings
Saturday Morning Ride Smack Down Ride. 8:30 AM sharp all year, depending upon weather. Start: Nahanton Park, Newton. Various options for distances 19, 23, 28, and 42 mile loops. Same route as Tuesday Night World Championships, with optional loops. Often a well attended ride, the ride has various speeds depending on which group you go with. The first group will average over 23+ mph on the 42 mile loop and no one waits. The other groups will have lower average speeds.
